Seeing is not Always Believing

This workshop is our core preoccupation that we constantly develop and improve, focused on encouraging professionals to let themselves be guided by a blind person. People in my condition need to rely on another person, a dog, or our senses, we are pushed out of our comfort zone and forced to surrender trust in another.

This is a never-ending exercise, we let ourselves immerse in the lifelong principle that people are willing to be good, to cooperate and help others if given a chance.

When setting the structure base of this workshop, we considered starting as equals – everyone is blindfolded, and we simply learn to engage and play. When the eyes are not busy anymore, we are more inclined to introspection.

We chose the word “play” intentionally as I think we lost our ability to make fun of ourselves, this is something my sister and I call our superpower – turning a disability into an ability.

Also, the professional environment needs to let go sometimes and navigate boldly into the unknown. Before going further, we might choose to clarify the concept of diversity, which encompasses hiring and nurturing employees from various backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to physical abilities, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, education, economic status, skills, professional experience, citizenship, and national origins.

So, after getting comfortable being blindfolded we can draw and write without any fear of being judged or doing something wrong.

Another thing we include in many of our workshops is playing a video with audio description, a very stimulating exercise for memory and intuition development, and then we discuss the differences and make comparisons.

A suitable exercise is “Heard, Seen, Respected“, where each participant is encouraged to reflect on a situation where they felt unheard, unseen, or disrespected. Through this exercise, we learn to trust that our team members will treat us kindly, recognizing that no one is superior, and we all contribute to a common objective.

Similarly, “I Am, But I Am Not” aims to acknowledge and challenge prevalent stereotypes.
